Buying a Home or Property
As a buyer, it costs nothing to hire a real estate professional. Realtors make a living from a portion of the commission the seller pays when the deal closes. When buying a home, look for homes that you will be able to afford comfortably and in an area you like. Listen to your agent's recommendations and always make your own decision. Your future home and investment should make you happy!
Checklist when looking for a home:
1. How much do I want to borrow and how much can I afford? By obtaining a Good Faith Estimate from a lender (these should be free of charge) you will know how much you can borrow based on your income and credit history.
2. Where do I want to live? Things to consider are if you are single, plan to marry, plan to have kids, plan to have in-laws with you, and hobbies. These subjects will drive you in choosing the right home that's in a particular school district, size of home (rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, yard, square footage), or close to a recreational area.
3. Hire someone you trust and start looking. Normally you want to look at many internet MLS listings and then choose the properties you want to see in person. If your Realtor(R) is pushing you to buy something you can't afford, he/she may not be looking out for your best interest. Buying something too expensive can lead to foreclosure.
Ask Questions!
There are no dumb questions. When buying or selling real estate, large amounts of monies and real property changes hands. Be sure to know what you are doing when engaging in a transaction and hire a good Realtor(R) to help you as you make your wishes come true.
